The project aims to address systemic gaps in protection, policies and public awareness regarding gender-based violence against LGBTI people, particularly those who experience intersectional forms of discrimination, such as trans people, migrants, young people, Roma people and people with HIV, in Italy and Romania. The project involves four interconnected activities: 1) Capacity building for LGBTI activists through mapping sessions, legal training and cross-border study visits, to prepare them to act as agents of change at the community level. 2) Developing two policy papers based on data on gender-based violence against LGBTI people in Romania and Italy, produced from an intersectional perspective and providing concrete recommendations for policy improvement. 3) Training policy makers and representatives of public institutions to improve institutional understanding and responsiveness towards LGBTI survivors of gender-based violence. 4) Implementation of a large-scale awareness-raising campaign with the aim of countering harmful narratives and increasing public knowledge about protection mechanisms. The project adopts a transformative, intersectional and survivor-centred approach to gender, ensuring the full inclusion of diverse LGBTI voices.
