Project description
Omphalos Pink House is a residential reception/shelter project with the aim of offering material and psychological support to LGBTQIA+ people who have been abandoned by their family of origin and/or marginalized by society, and who need a safe place where they can be themselves and regain control over their lives. Over the years, Omphalos has received thousands of requests for help, especially from young boys and girls between the ages of 18 and 26. About 10% of the requests were in need of safe short/medium-term accommodation, which unfortunately the association has never been able to respond to. For this reason, the project creates a pathway of help and support that, in parallel with the support services (medical, psychological, legal, job orientation and self-help) offered by the Anti-Discrimination Center, also includes the possibility of accommodation in a sheltered facility, in order to provide all the tools necessary to achieve a state of well-being, which can allow the users of the project to recover an independent life. The pathway is divided into: emergency-first reception, entrance into the facility, and start of psychological and/or legal counselling. The central part of the path, also based on the individual needs of the user, includes involvement in the activities and groups of the association, to allow the restoration of a healing community relationship and self-awareness that facilitates full autonomous return to society. The project includes the implementation of the following actions: 1. Study visits and networking with other shelters; 2. Development and sharing of a set of management regulations for the House; 3. Training for operators and volunteers; 4. Orientation, personalized support and integration into community life; 5. Raising awareness of the local community.
Duration: 18 months.
